Information Perscriptions logo

An information prescription is a document designed to provide service users and carers with information about their long-term condition such as diagnosis and possible treatments and signposts to further advice and support such as how to access local support groups.

The information prescriptions e-learning course has been developed on behalf of DH by NHS Employers and is delivered by DH e-learning for Healthcare (e-LfH).

It is suitable for any member of staff who has responsibility for providing information to service users and carers. The e-learning identifies the skills and competences needed to assess information needs and provides individually tailored action plans.

The course takes around 1.5 hours to complete in total and is broken down into four areas of learning to allow users to complete it at their own pace.

  • Understanding information prescriptions

What information prescriptions are, their benefits and why they are important.

  • Assessing information needs
