Expanding clinical placement opportunities

Posted on: April 14th, 2025 by Emma Harper No Comments

As healthcare moves towards digitalisation so does the training of clinicians. The Peer Enhanced e-Placement (PEEP) model has been designed to improve blended learning placement opportunities in health and care. The PEEP model was developed as a response to challenges posed by COVID-19, ensuring that students can still meet their placement learning requirements online.

Following its launch PEEP has won several awards and is recognised as a tool that can open access to the practical elements of health and care training. This means that PEEP breaks down access barriers to learning through the flexible nature of the tool.

The tool has been commissioned by NHS England’s Blended Learning Programme to enable free, unlimited access to the PEEP resource for all healthcare education providers.

New course - Perinatal Mental Health Birth Trauma

Posted on: April 3rd, 2025 by Talisa Saini No Comments

Supporting patients who have experienced had a traumatic experience during birth is the aim of new elearning on Perinatal Mental Health Birth Trauma.

Three new learning modules build on a trauma informed approach to further explore birth trauma specifically and have been added to the Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) programme on the elearning for healthcare (elfh) hub. They are suitable for all professionals involved in perinatal care.

Studies indicate that as many as one in three birthing people found some aspect of the birth of their baby psychologically traumatic. Women with birth trauma often find it hard to bond with their baby and those with PTSD can be extremely anxious and irritable, leading to relationship difficulties. Many women who have had a traumatic birth suffer from painful and distressing physical symptoms, sometimes because of tearing or other physical injury.

The new sessions are:

  • Introduction and definition of birth trauma – explores what birth trauma is and identifies some of the risks that can make people more vulnerable to experiencing it.
  • Symptoms of birth trauma and postnatal PTSD – identifies birth trauma, in the context of families and relationships, and start to find possible support.
  • Different assessment tools available to screen for birth trauma – describes evidence-based tools and scales that screen for trauma and supportive options for psychological interventions.

New Research Published: Identifying Research Priorities in Digital Education for Health Care

Posted on: April 2nd, 2025 by Charlotte Murray No Comments

Following two years of research, the TEL Research and Academic Development team led by Chris Munsch and Alison Potter, have had their research paper published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research.

Their study looked at available evidence for the effectiveness of digital education in healthcare and attempted to identify any gaps in the evidence. They undertook an extensive review of the current scientific literature, from which a final short list of 63 potential research questions was identified. They then undertook an expert consensus modified Delphi exercise with educators, academics and learners. This led to agreement on the five priority research questions for digital education in healthcare

The paper, Identifying Research Priorities in Digital Education for Health Care: Umbrella Review and Modified Delphi Method Study’, now provides a comprehensive list of research questions, identifies priority areas for future research and is an important contribution to the literature on digital education.
