About the Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP) elearning programme
The GAP elearning modules have been developed to support midwives, obstetricians and sonographers in the delivery of safe fetal growth surveillance during pregnancy.
It is part of the Perinatal Institute’s award-winning GAP programme, a licensed and supported service which includes training, elearning, customised growth charts, care pathways and tools for rolling audit, benchmarking and reporting.
The need for a standardised, evidence-based protocol has arisen from findings that many adverse outcomes in maternal and perinatal care are associated with unrecognised fetal growth problems. These can be prevented by improved awareness and identification of the pregnancies affected. GAP is aligned with key elements of NHS England Saving Babies Lives v2 and RCOG SGA guidelines.
There are 2 modules available to access, theoretical and practical.

The Perinatal Institute is a not-for-profit social enterprise that works in partnership with clinicians and their health organisations throughout the UK. GAP has been implemented in about 80% of maternity units in the NHS and has contributed substantially to the recent year on year reduction in ONS stillbirth rates.

How to access
In order to access the Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP) elearning programme, you will need an elfh account. If you do not have one, then you can register by selecting the Register button below.
To view the Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP) elearning programme, select the View button below. If you already have an account with elfh, you will also be able to login and enrol on the programme from the View button.
Not an NHS organisation?
If you are not an NHS health or care organisation and therefore do not qualify for free access elfh Hub, you may be able to access the service by creating an OpenAthens account.
To check whether or not you qualify for free access via OpenAthens, you can view the eligibility criteria and register on the ‘OpenAthens’ portal.
Registering large numbers of users
If you are a HR, IT or Practice Manager and would like to register and enrol large numbers of staff within your organisation for access onto the Growth Assessment Protocol (GAP) elearning programme, please contact elfh directly.
Organisations wishing to use their own LMS
