About the NHS Health Check elearning programme

This elearning programme includes 2 parts, which have been developed to support the delivery of NHS Health Checks, available for people aged 40 to 74 years in England, without pre-existing cardiovascular disease.

Learners can explore a variety of resources from the NHS Health Check training hub presented as a townscape and an NHS Health Check video-based learning resource is also available. Primarily aimed at health trainers, pharmacy staff, health care assistants, anyone involved in the delivery of the NHS Health Check programme will find this programme useful.

About the NHS Health Check training hub

To use the interactive townscape, click on the different locations to access a variety of free external resources, which are relevant to the NHS Health Check. Topics include blood pressure, cholesterol, physical activity, alcohol, smoking, behavior change, dementia, information on cardiovascular disease prevention and the NHS Health Check programme.

These learning resources support the delivery of the NHS Health Check and complement locally commissioned NHS Health Check training. Learners may be required to set up a free account to access some of the external resources.

About the video-based NHS Health Check elearning resources

The NHS Health Check videos were developed by Health Education England, in collaboration with Public Health England (now the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities). They provide introductory knowledge about the NHS Health Check, which compliments locally commissioned training.

Anyone delivering the NHS Health Check must meet the national competencies. The Competency Framework was developed in accordance with DH Standard Operating Procedures for NHS Health Checks (DH 2008).

Reviewed in 2022, the video resources reflect the changes introduced to the NHS Health Check programme, in the context of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.
