The Endoscopy elearning programme is a free elearning resource for health and care professionals working in endoscopy. It has been developed by the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) working in partnership with Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh).
The Endoscopy elearning resource provides a programme of courses covering the core areas of endoscopy. Interactive learning is incorporated into each session with a variety of question formats related to each subject area. Each session of elearning takes around 20 minutes to complete and can be done so in more than one sitting, to fit around busy work and study schedules.
The Core Endoscopy for Endoscopists course covers distinct areas of endoscopic practice providing an overview of the subject area and links to further learning resources. The course covers a virtual curriculum of knowledge-based competencies required by endoscopists, endoscopy trainers and endoscopy nurses to establish a firm foundation for their further training. This learning tool should be seen as an adjunct to additional JAG skills courses and completion of appropriate hands-on training linked to a portfolio or competency-framework, providing evidence of learning in areas that are central to the practice of endoscopy.

The Capsule Endoscopy course covers the technical components of the capsule endoscopy (CE) procedure including the kit and software needed and introduces indications for the use of CE. It will cover how to report CE including identification of important landmarks and the spectrum of normal findings. It will also introduce the learner to pathological findings seen on CE and the possible spectrum of appearance these may have. This learning tool should be seen as an adjunct to additional JAG skills courses and completion of appropriate training, providing evidence of learning in areas that are central to the practice of capsule endoscopy.

This course introduces endoscopy team members to the concept and importance of endoscopic non-technical skills (ENTS). It provides a comprehensive overview of the skills necessary to undertake endoscopy, effectively. These include communication, teamwork, leadership, situational awareness, judgement and decision-making skills.

This area of learning comprises of 3 courses. Each course, comprising of several sessions each, covers a distinct area of endoscopy practice and provides an overview of the subject area and links to further learning resources.
ENDO 1
This learning tool should be used as prerequisite to the ENDO1 half day training course (virtual or face to face), and completion of section 1 and 2 of the JETS Workforce ePortfolio and competency framework. The completion of the elearning provides evidence of learning in areas that are central to the practice of endoscopy. These sessions support the completion of the foundation level of the JETS Workforce ePortfolio and are required to complete the foundation segment (level 1).
ENDO 2
This learning tool should be used as prerequisite to the ENDO2 one day training course (face to face), and completion of section 3 of the JETS Workforce ePortfolio and competency framework. The completion of the elearning provides evidence of learning in areas that are central to the practice of assisting at advanced endoscopy. These sessions support the completion of the advanced practice level of the JETS Workforce ePortfolio and are required to complete the segment (level 3).
ENDO 3
This learning tool should be used as prerequisite to the ENDO3 one day training course (virtual or face to face), and completion of section 4 and 5 of the JETS Workforce ePortfolio and competency framework. The completion of the elearning provides evidence of learning in areas that are central to the practice of endoscopy leadership and management. These sessions support the completion of the management and leadership levels of the JETS Workforce ePortfolio and are required to complete the segment (level 4 and 5).
This course is aimed at endosonographers undertaking or planning to undertake endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue sampling by fine-needle aspiration (FNA) or fine-needle biopsy (FNB). The course focuses on best practice in endoscopic and sampling technique, as well as tissue processing, and emphasises the importance of auditing outcomes.
The interactive sessions of elearning are designed to enhance and blend with existing teaching within endoscopy.
The Endoscopy Administrative and Clerical elearning programme is a free elearning resource for administrative work supporting booking and scheduling functions in endoscopy. It has been developed through collaboration with the Southwest and London Endoscopy training academies, The Cheshire and Merseyside Cancer Alliance, the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) supported by NHS England.
The sessions within this programme provide learning that covers key areas of endoscopy service provision. This learning should be seen as an adjunct to a foundation competency-framework, providing evidence of learning in areas that are central to the booking and scheduling of endoscopy. Interactive learning is incorporated into each session with a variety of question formats related to each subject area. Each session takes around 20 minutes to complete and can be done so in more than one sitting, to fit around busy work schedules.

Each course comprises of sessions from throughout the Endoscopy programme. They have been organised in such a way to provide a straightforward learning pathway, for those interested in the abovementioned areas of practice.
NHS Education for Scotland supports the JETS workforce resources within ENDO 1 and ENDO 2 for Endoscopy Practice across Scotland. There are notable variances within Decontamination Practice and Legislation for which learners within Scotland, should refer to specific National guidance.

NHS healthcare staff in England – ESR
The Endoscopy programme is also available to NHS healthcare staff via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). Accessing this e-learning via ESR means that your completions will transfer with you throughout your NHS career.

If you are not an NHS health or care organisation and therefore do not qualify for free access elfh Hub, you may be able to access the service by creating an OpenAthens account.
