This series of bite-sized sessions has been developed by Samaritans and NHS England to focus on supporting your own and others’ emotional wellbeing.
Each session, which takes approximately 20 minutes to explore and complete, features concepts, models, animations, interactive questions and self-reflection activities.
The elearning was developed to support the mental health crisis workforce but is not exclusively targeted to the mental health crisis workforce.
While the sessions can be completed individually, the content also complements and builds on the skills and concepts from the Samaritans Listening Skills & Emotional Health (LS) course delivered for NHS England.
The 2019 NHS Mental Health Implementation Plan identifies the targets for the mental health crisis workforce:
There has been significant progress in these service targets. However, this has been at a time of increasing service demand, the impact of COVID-19, pressures on staff wellbeing, and the speed with which services have had to mobilise. In response, NHS England commissioned the charity Samaritans to implement a series of training courses on topics including Listening Skills and Emotional Health, Understanding and Responding to Grief and Recognising and Managing Trauma to help organisations to develop the skills and confidence of their teams to support anyone who is vulnerable and may be struggling to cope.
Every day, at work and in our lives, we may face challenges, difficulties and unexpected situations that can cause us stress and impact our wellbeing. How effectively we respond to those experiences can influence not only the outcome, but also our own emotional health and resilience over time. NHS England have collaborated with Samaritans to develop a series of bite-sized, self-directed learning tools/resources for the mental health crisis workforce and other teams to help them support their own and others’ emotional wellbeing.
Because we appreciate….”You don’t have to be positive all the time. It’s perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, frustrated, scared and anxious. Having feelings doesn’t make you a negative person. It makes you human.” — Lori Deschene (Founder of Tiny Buddha Self-Help App)
