The aim of this learning session is to introduce the Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag and how this can be used to address some of the significant health inequalities experienced by people living with a disability or impairment.
By law (the Equality Act 2010) all people who have a disability or impairment are entitled to reasonable adjustments. Without these adjustments, people with disabilities may have equal access to care and services, but without specific adjustments being made, that access might not be equitable or fair.
Reasonable adjustments are the responsibility of everyone in the health and social care sector and this session will help you understand that these adjustments are not just the right thing to do, but may be the difference between someone receiving essential care or not. It will explain how the Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag can help you and your organisation meet your obligations under the Equality Act and how you could make a real difference to the estimated 28% of the population in England that this affects.
This is separate to the Oliver McGowan mandatory training.
The aims of this elearning are:
The anticipated length of the session is 30 to 60 minutes.
The Reasonable Adjustments Digital Flag (RADF) is a national record that is held on the Spine (National Care Records Service) which indicates that reasonable adjustments are required for an individual, and optionally includes details of their significant impairments, key adjustments that should be considered and underlying conditions.
NHS England has built the Digital Flag in the NHS Spine to enable health and care professionals to record, share and view details of reasonable adjustments across the NHS and social care, wherever the person is treated.
An Information Standard was published in September 2023 under the Health and Social Care Act and this training will help all those working in Health and Social Care understand and be able to deliver their obligations under both this Act and the Equality Act (2010).
It may be helpful to consider undertaking this learning alongside The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism, and sessions on the Accessible Information Standard and Mental Capacity Act.
