Health Education England (HEE) has worked in partnership with Public Health England, British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, University of Leeds and University of Nottingham to develop an elearning session for community pharmacy staff on the impact of antimicrobial resistance.

This elearning session will help community pharmacy staff to understand the connection between antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance and identify their role in optimising antibiotic use in the general population who visit their pharmacy.

The resource also includes information on using the Antibiotic Checklist to personalise patient advice when dispensing antibiotics and awareness of the global impact of antibiotic resistance.

The elearning is available to access for free on the HEE elearning for healthcare Hub and will soon also be available on the Electronic Staff Record (ESR).

New e-learning on hypertension now available

Posted on: February 5th, 2020 by Alex Drinkall No Comments

Health Education England has worked with NHS England & NHS Improvement and Public Health England to develop an elearning programme to address the huge underdiagnosis and inaccurate diagnosis of hypertension.

The Hypertension upskilling programme incorporates up to date guidelines and evidence-based aims to aid front-line primary care colleagues in the diagnosis and management of hypertension and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk – including familial, hypercholesterolaemia, artrial fibrillation, dyslipidaemia and other cardiovascular disease related conditions.

The NHS Long Term Plan makes hypertension one of the top three cardiovascular priorities, alongside artrial fibrillation and lipid management. This plan has set a target of, over the next ten years, 80% of the expected prevalence of hypertension should be diagnosed and, of those diagnosed, 80% treated to target as per NICE guidelines.

The programme was funded by Health Education England and developed in partnership with NHS England & NHS Improvement, and Public Health England. It consists of a webinar and a short quiz to test knowledge and understanding of the topic.

Work and Health e-learning programme launches additional evaluation survey

Posted on: February 4th, 2020 by Alex Drinkall No Comments

elfh has launched an additional evaluation survey on its Work and Health elearning programme. The survey invites learners to provide feedback on the programme and whether it has met its objectives:

https://healtheducationyh.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/work-and-health-elearning-programme-evaluation.

The elearning programme aims to help healthcare professionals to recognise the value in talking to patients about work and supports them to make brief interventions such as discussing the health benefits of work with patients, talking about return to work and advising on adjustments at work. The survey only takes 5-10 minutes to complete and your valuable feedback will help inform and shape future developments of the Work and Health elearning programme.

e-Learning to help people living in cold homes

Posted on: February 3rd, 2020 by Alex Drinkall No Comments

Around three million people in England live in homes that are too cold. The health effects are enormous – people can end up visiting their GP more, being admitted to hospital, becoming depressed, or even dying because they are just not warm enough at home.

Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has worked with Public Health England (PHE) to develop the Helping People Living in Cold Homes elearning programme for health and care professionals.

The elearning resource supports health and social care professionals to put National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance into practice.

Aimed at health and care staff who undertake home visits, the resource provides information on local services that can assist people living in cold homes, such as installing insulation, improving heating systems or helping reduce energy bills.

It also helps people spot the signs of a cold home – including less obvious ones.

With this information, staff can have a conversation with people whose health may be affected by being too cold at home, and signpost them to the relevant local services.

Posted on: February 3rd, 2020 by Alex Drinkall No Comments

Health Education England’s elearning for healthcare has worked with NHS England and NHS Improvement, and the Self Care Forum to develop an elearning programme to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to conduct a ‘self-care aware’ consultation with patients and carers.

Aimed at healthcare professionals working in primary care including GPs, pharmacists and nurses, the course has been created to improve the learner’s confidence to advise patients and/or their carers on how they can manage and treat minor health conditions. In addition, it seeks to assist commissioners and prescribers with implementing the guidance for Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) ‘Conditions for which over the counter items should not routinely be prescribed in primary care’ developed by NHS England and NHS Improvement, and NHS Clinical Commissioners.

The programme consists of four elearning sessions to support strategies to improve access to evidence-based information about self-treatable conditions including referral to nhs.uk, the Self Care Forum website or directly to community pharmacists. Sessions include:

Session 1: Context of Self Care in the Wider Healthcare Arena

Session 2: Principles of Management of Self-Treatable Conditions

Session 3: Self Care Aware Consultation

Session 4: Promoting Self Care

All the supporting materials for this programme have been written by subject specialists and experts in this field. The elearning programme is available on the elfh Hub, the Electronic Staff Record (ESR), via AICC links and for registered users of the Centre for Pharmacy Education (CPPE) website.
