Elearning to support administrative triage now available

Posted on: August 3rd, 2022 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

Developed to support GP administrative staff in sorting, signposting and delivering administrative triage, 5 new elearning sessions aim to guide those administering a triage process in general practice through signposting to existing resources, questions and mini quizzes which are designed to record how confident learners feel in each topic area at the start and end of the elearning sessions.

In these sessions, produced in partnership with NHS England, the Practice Managers Association and Health Education England, learners will be introduced to:
introducing administrative triage and understanding the evidence behind using an online consultation system to support patient requests
designing a practice workflow and setting up a triage list
promoting the service to patients and understanding some of the considerations for the practice team when working remotely
confidently taking patients, or their nominated carer, through an online consultation request over the telephone or in person
sorting patient requests and signposting to the right place, service or clinician for clinical triage

The new elearning sessions take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

Survey invites newly qualified paramedics to leave feedback on elearning

Posted on: August 3rd, 2022 by Rebecca Tinnion No Comments

To date there are 15 modules available in the Paramedics elearning programme, developed by Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) in partnership with the College of Paramedics.

As the programme develops, we would like to raise awareness of the modules across the newly qualified and newly registered paramedic community.

Feedback survey

A quick survey has been developed to gain feedback on modules in the Paramedics elearning programme.

By participating in the survey, you will provide valuable insight into the content which is most relevant (and needed) for newly registered paramedics.

Accessing the survey

The online survey, which is open from 1 August to 31 December 2022, can be completed on a mobile device, laptop or PC.

You can access the survey here.

Many thanks for your support.

New elearning programme aims to support training of AHPs in neonatal care

Posted on: July 27th, 2022 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has worked in partnership with Health Education England’s National Maternity Team to develop a new elearning programme to support the training needs of allied health professionals (AHPs) working in neonatal care.

The programme consists of an introductory session plus 8 foundation sessions aimed at occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, dietitians and physiotherapists, as detailed below:

Introduction to AHPs in Neonatal Care

Speech and Language Therapy in Neonatal Service

  • The role of a speech and language therapist in neonatal care – introduction and background
  • The role of the speech and language therapist in neonatal care – principles of practice

Physiotherapy in Neonatal Service

  • Introduction to the role of the neonatal physiotherapist
  • Neurological assessment of the neonate

Occupational Therapy in Neonatal Service

  • Overview of the role and scope of occupational therapy in neonatal services
  • Introduction to occupational therapy practice in neonatal services

Dietetics in Neonatal Service

  • Introduction to principles of neonatal dietetics Part A
  • Introduction to principles of neonatal dietetics Part B

The resource was developed in response to Implementing the Recommendations of the Neonatal Critical Care Transformation Review which highlighted that the role of AHPs in neonatal care differs to practice in older children and adults, demonstrating the need for AHPs with specific skill sets. AHPs play an important role in embedding principles of care that impact all babies on the neonatal unit and beyond, ultimately improving long term outcomes for babies and their families.

For more information and to access the sessions, please visit the Introduction to Allied Health Professionals in Neonatal Care programme page.

Doctors in Training Induction programme updated

Posted on: July 13th, 2022 by Kieron Bradshaw No Comments

The Doctors in Training (DiT) Induction elearning programme has been reviewed and updated by subject specialists ahead of the new academic year.

Following feedback from practising clinical staff as well as doctors currently in training, sessions from the programme have been updated to improve the experience for learners.

DiT is aimed at foundation doctors (F1 and F2) and focuses on professional skills in the workplace through 3 patient journey scenarios, along with an assessment to confirm compliance.

It addresses some identified gaps in knowledge for doctors prior to starting their next year on 1 August.

It is also suitable for returning doctors and doctors from overseas working in primary care, secondary care and community settings.

The 3 patient journey scenarios are based around areas that doctors in training have highlighted as those they find most challenging. They include:

  • Blood transfusion and consent
  • Safe prescribing and venous thromboembolism (VTE)
  • Mental Capacity Act and death certification

The learning objectives for this programme have been specially written by experts:

More information, including access details, is available on the Doctors in Training Induction page.

New session on climate change now added to All Our Health programme

Posted on: July 7th, 2022 by Louise Garrahan No Comments

Health Education England elearning for healthcare (HEE elfh) has worked with the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OHID) to develop a new elearning session for the All Our Health programme.

Climate Change helps all health and social care professionals use their trusted relationships with patients, families, and communities to protect the health of people and planet by taking actions which improve health and reduce carbon emissions.

The session has been developed in response to the world’s worsening climate crisis as the health of the planet is inextricably linked to human health and wellbeing. A healthy planet provides us with our most basic needs: fertile land for food production, safe water to drink and clean air to breathe. The warming of the planet, known as ‘climate change’, is degrading our planet’s life-support system and threatens our ability to thrive and survive. Climate change is happening more quickly than previously feared and represents an urgent global crisis requiring a bold, united response.

To support action against climate change, the session offers advice and information to help all health and care professionals:

  • understand specific activities linked to transport, housing, food, green space, and social and health inequalities that can support a healthy planet and improve population health
  • reduce the contribution that health and care have on the climate crisis such as prioritising treatments and technologies with a lower environmental impact

The session also signposts learners to other sources of useful information such as HEE elfh’s Environmentally Sustainable Healthcare elearning programme, Walking for Health and Medact.

It complements the 28 existing sessions within the All Our Health programme which covers a range of public health topics including air pollution, cardiovascular disease prevention, mental health, social prescribing, workplace health, healthy ageing, and child and adult obesity. All Our Health also features 5 interactive townscape sessions where learners can click on various buildings, such as the GP surgery and school, to access support on topics such as breastfeeding and child oral health.

To access the latest resource, please select the Climate Change session on the All Our Health programme page.
