The training programme is designed to enhance and develop the knowledge and application of NHS Continuing Healthcare to all practitioners involved in the breadth of the process and to provide a uniform approach to a national standard.
The topics covered include the legal background to NHS Continuing Healthcare policy, high quality assessment and decision-making, dealing with disputes, and commissioning of care and support for staff involved in NHS Continuing Healthcare.
National Framework for NHS Continuing Healthcare was introduced in 2007 and there were subsequent revisions in 2009, 2012, 2018 and 2022. The latest revision in 2022 strengthens the person centred approach, Hospital discharge, Interagency dispute resolution, Consent, virtual assessments and Fast Track reviews within the assessment framework.
The National eLearning Training Programme was developed in 2018 updated in 2020 as part of the incident response to covid. In December 2020 the PHSO published a review document “getting it right first time” prompting the need to revisit all the available eLearning sessions and update to respond to feedback and reflect current practice and guidance. The 2023 review has included participant feedback and the revised National Framework for Continuing Healthcare and NHS-funded Nursing Care.
Feedback and evaluation are a continual process, and we would ask that all who complete the CHC eLearning please provide feedback on the sessions content when prompted to do so to support ongoing evaluation and review.
All the Sessions have been updated for 2023 and we wish to thank the following organisations and teams for their time, knowledge and collaboration:
NHS England Continuing Health Care National and Regional Teams
NHS England Community Nurse Fellows
Hertfordshire County Council 0-25 Together Specialist Services
NHS England Personalisation Team
