This course is designed for pre-registration speech and language therapy students to aid completion of the pre-registration eating, drinking, and swallowing (EDS) competencies. You will learn about 2 adult and 2 paediatric clients who have EDS difficulties. On completion of the programme students should send a copy of their assessment results to their higher education institute as part record of achievement of the competencies. Please note that completion of this course does not entitle the learner to work independently with people with EDS difficulties but may be a useful adjunct to formal training.
Learning outcomes:
The speech and language therapist has an important role in working with people with EDS difficulties. By 2026 all speech and language therapy students will graduate having achieved pre-registration EDS competencies. This elearning was developed through a joint project between Health Education England and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. Further information and resources are available at: https://www.rcslt.org/learning/pre-registration-eds-competencies/.
