About the Transnasal Endoscopy (TNE) programme

The transnasal endoscopy (TNE) service is a national £2.5 million capital funded initiative to provide a new service of TNE to improve waiting times and patient experience. This training has been designed to ensure that this diagnostic modality can be implemented nationally as part of that initiative.

The use of TNE is an effective alternative procedure to conventional (transoral) OGD.The programme is aimed at endoscopy nurses, medical, surgical and clinical endoscopists and consists of 6 elearning sessions focused on how to deliver effective TNE within the diagnostic pathway. This will improve 6-week waiting times for upper GI endoscopy and reduce the backlog. Importantly, TNE services will improve cancer waiting times by releasing capacity in the system and improving waiting times.
