Review the health and wellbeing of children, for example where parents and carers have concerns about their child.
Where there are concerns, complete an assessment to identify needs and strengths.
Based on need, provide information about local universal services. This might include family hubs or children’s centres and GPs, where parents and carers can seek additional support and advice to care for their child’s health and wellbeing, such as parent and toddler groups or parenting support to enhance skills and confidence.
Where children, have been identified as requiring targeted or specialist intervention, follow local pathways and guidance to provide targeted intervention or complete appropriate and timely referral.

Healthy beginnings: applying all our health
Review the child’s development with the parents or carers, including movement, speech and language, social skills, hearing and vision.
Where there are concerns about child development, including complex needs and disability, complete an assessment to identify needs and strengths. Where appropriate, work in partnership with early years providers to complete the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) progress check.
Based on need, provide information about local universal services and community groups, for example family hubs or children’s centres, where parents and carers can seek additional support such as parent and toddler groups.
Where children and their parents and carers have been identified as requiring targeted or specialist services, follow local pathways to complete appropriate and timely referral.

Provide parents and carers evidence-based information about managing behavioural and emotional health. Encourage good routines for health and wellbeing including good sleeping habits. Raise awareness about the type of developmental issues parents may now encounter.
Give them the opportunity to share any concerns, signposting to appropriate group-based parenting support as required.

Review the child’s growth, healthy eating and activity.
Where there are parent, carer or professional concerns about a child’s growth, for example faltering or rapid growth, measure, record and plot the child’s growth. Complete an assessment to identify needs and strengths.
Based on need, provide information about local universal services, for example family hubs or children’s centres, where parents and carers can access community groups that support the development of healthy weight, nutrition, and physical activity.
Where children, have been identified as requiring targeted or specialist intervention, follow local pathways and guidance to provide targeted intervention or complete appropriate and timely referral.
If there is parental or professional concern about a child’s growth or risk to normal growth (including obesity), an assessment should be completed. This involves accurate measurement, interpretation and explanation of the child’s weight in relation to height, to growth potential and to any earlier growth measurements of the child. A decision should be made as to whether follow-up or an intervention is appropriate in line with the local care pathway. The family’s agreement should be sought.
